Jacqueline Burke, Author – Writing Style

We all have a different writing style; some may want to paint a picture using 20 pages of description before they even get to the dialogue, while others just pour it out from their heart, while leaving the visualization to the reader!  I tend to leave something for the reader to create in their own mind; that is part of reading a great book.

When I read a book, I like to be able to visualize the characters, the environment, and feel with my heart, what they are going through.  I like to have the option to do this, however this is my own opinion.  I tend to create this in my own writing.  I find it also helps to create more interest with my readers.

I put my readers in the driver’s seat 😊❤

What do you like to read?  Do you prefer to contribute your own creativity to a novel with your visualization, or do you prefer to have it all created for you?  I know this is a personal preference, but it is important to honor everyone’s creative styles.  That is what makes us unique!  At the end of the day, we end up balancing each other out with our styles, which makes it even more special.  We are creating options, choices, and inspiration for our readers.

Writing and creativity is a gift to cherish; there is no right or wrong way, there is no “by the book”, but what there is, is called “your way”, and that is important to focus on.  Following your own way of writing, brings the best stories, the best creativity, and the best projects!  Follow your own way!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – We Were Just Kids

We were just kids when we couldn’t wait to turn 16 and drive around with our friends

We were just kids when we couldn’t wait to turn 19 and go out dancing at the local nightclub

We were just kids when we couldn’t wait to turn 21 and we were legal everywhere.

All we wanted to do was make time go by faster

We were just kids when we thought we would marry our first love

We were just kids when we thought we would have a dream wedding

We were just kids when we thought we would have 2, no 4 kids

All we wanted to do was make time go by faster

We were just kids when we thought we would live until we were 100

We were just kids when we thought nothing could stop us

We were just kids when we had no fear

All we wanted to do was make time go by faster

We were just kids when our best friend died

We were just kids when our grandparents didn’t live until they were 100

We were just kids when our childhood sweetheart left us for another

All we wanted to do was make time stand still

We were just kids when we married the wrong person and ended up in divorce

We were just kids when we were raising children on our own

We were just kids when we feared everything in our paths

All we wanted to do was make time stand still

We were just kids when we were faced with looking after our loved one’s health

We were just kids when we watched how life went full circle and our parents were now our dependents

We were just kids when we had to bury them beside their own parents who died too soon

We were just kids when we looked in the mirror and wondered where time went

All we wanted to do was become a kid again

We were kids again, when we realized that life is short

We were kids again, when we realized age is just a number

We were kids again, when we realized we will always be someone’s child

We were kids again, when we realized we shouldn’t regret our past

We were kids again, when we realized we can be young at heart

We were kids again, when we realized it is okay to follow a dream

We were kids again, when we realized we don’t need to hate

We were kids again, when we realized it is okay to love

We were kids again, when we realized we don’t see the color of skin

We were kids again, when we realized in order to know a person, we need to look into their eyes

We were kids again, when it all made sense – we are all one

All we want is Peace

Jacqueline Burke, Author – Time To Make A Movie!

I’ll let you in on a little secret, from November 2019 to March 2020, I was working at bringing the In My Closet book series to the big screen!  I was taking my time, researching, networking with a wonderful film producer/director, and diving into my passion in film production.

Then, the latest in the World happened, so some projects were put on the back burner.  Until recently!!

I decided, when we are dealt a hand we have no control over and with no end date as of yet, there is no reason we cannot take a different approach with our projects, that not only respects the current social distancing, but also respects the need for us to do our part in this fight and “stay home”.   I’ve decided to take a more documentary/interview approach with the characters in my book series.  Creativity at its finest!  This will be an introduction to the characters while leaving you with suspense and excitement to see the actual films.  The build up!

It will take time, but I’m going to make sure this entire approach is a gift to my book series and the future production of this series.  I am checking out different Apps that work with my technology and I’m just going to give it my all!  While still having fun!

This is one of my dreams!  I look at all shows that are continuing from the homes of our most respected celebrities, so why can’t I make a movie with the same concept!  It’s worth a shot!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – It’s Time!

It’s Time!  I’ve taken the past couple of weeks to, for lack of better words, “get a grip” on reality.  I will admit, the last 14 days have been ones of shock and anxiety; something I share with the rest of the World.  However, it is time to stand tall, strong, and motivated to be part of the solution.

My family and I have been in our home for 14 days now; only to leave once, to pick up some groceries.  We have decided,  we now can lock ourselves down for a month, before we will need to venture out to get more supplies.  We are trying to be as proactive as possible!

There will be a lot of writing done during this time, and trust me, It’s Time!

Not to long ago, I had a thought going through my mind about how, “we never seem to have enough time”, well now we have lots of it!

The In My Closet series was written with “Time” in mind.  Since everyone is so busy with their schedules and families, I wrote each book in this series, to be read in just over an hour or hour and a half.  This way, if someone was on their lunch hour, they could read a book on their break/breaks, or you could read these books, just before you go to bed at night.

It’s Time, I get back to my projects, there will be a lot of updates and “coming soon” posts.  I just wanted to check in with you to remind you we all have Time!  This World has given us more time to “stay in our homes”, “spend time with family” or “dive into creativity”, let us make good use of our time, as we are all doing it Together!!

Love to you all and wrap yourself up in Creativity!  It’s Time!!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – An Idea Comes When You Least Expect It

My passion in writing, has been a 30 year journey!  I’ve kept many journals, with ideas, stories, concepts, characters, and simply my own personal thoughts on my day.  I am grateful for writing everything down, as you never know when inspiration will hit you!

For example, last Summer, we were living in our trailer at our campsite; I found myself in a laundry facility doing our weekly loads, when there it was – inspiration!  I’m grateful I had my journal with me!  I know I received quite a few looks from other people, as I was not participating with their conversations.  Instead, I was simply sitting down, in between loads, writing in my journal.  In doing so, I escaped to a place where I could no longer hear the thumping and rattling of the overloaded washing machines, or the humming of the dryers.  The laundry facility did not exist in this time of inspiration.

My ideas come to me, when I least expect it!  I used to feel panic when an idea would hit me, as I was putting pressure on myself to remember every detail until I could get home to write it down.  Hence the reason I now keep my journals with me at all times.

I still love the feeling of pen to paper!

I have boxes and boxes filled with all my ideas and thoughts; some have been turned into lyrics for music,  ideas for novels, and what I refer to as my, “mother-load” box, are my ideas for eventually diving into writing for film/television.  The one thing that I have accomplished, is controlling the panic.  Due to having my journals and writing things down as they come, the information is now safe and locked in!  They are just aging and becoming full bodied while I type them into my laptop.  No more panic!

Grab a journal and a pen, and WRITE!  Write down your thoughts, get it out!  You never know where your inspiration will come from; harness it when it makes its appearance!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – I Have A Lot To Say!

I’ve always been a great listener; a quality I am proud of!  I’ve found over the years, I’ve been known for being that person to go to when someone needs to unload their thoughts without being judged.  Something I’m very proud of, but I’m also craving for my voice to be heard!  I have a lot to say!

I do not regret helping others in their time of need, and in fact I enjoy helping others.  I also want to help myself.  A reason for writing!

My mind is full of creative projects, which stem from all that I want to say and all I’ve ever wanted to say.  I pour my heart out in my writing, I solve all my problems in my writing, and I heal in my writing.  I have given myself the gift of communication in my writing and I will never regret following my dream of becoming a writer.  Writing has cleared my path to be able to express myself!

I have an endless amount of projects that will be released in the near future; some still need to age like a fine wine, but I’m comforted knowing they are still there gaining strength!

If you are struggling to be heard – WRITE!  Your heart can be heard if you do not have someone who will listen!  By writing all your thoughts down on paper, or by typing them into your laptop, you are unloading all you need to say.  Writing is an outlet to heal your mind.  There is no reason to continue to lock up all your thoughts in your mind; there is only so much storage space in there; release and feel the calming it will bring to your life.

I encourage everyone to dabble in writing your thoughts out, if anything, it is quite liberating to say all that you need to say!  Open that bottle and let it pour out!
