Jacqueline Burke, Author – How It All Started!

When I think back to when I first became interested in writing, it all focused around listening to music. This is really, how it all started!

I also did an extreme amount of reading; books, magazines, short stories, and even jewel case covers of CD’s. I would read, pretty much, anything! As I read, there was always music playing in the background. Some days I would have the radio on or a CD playing, but other times, I would just hear a tune in my head. I would start humming!

Music made me do it!

I found I was at complete peace when I was reading, writing, and doing it all with music playing. Music made it easier for me to visualize. Music helped me to get into a certain mood when writing fiction, but especially when I wrote The Good Vibes Only Roadshow and Love Grandma (recipe book series).

I spent many years in jobs that truly, “just weren’t for me”, but I had to work and support my family. I did what I needed to do at the time. There came a time, while working these jobs, I just couldn’t do it anymore. I needed to be me! In finding me, I played a lot of music and wrote in one journal after another.

Here I am! Music made me do it!

I feel very fortunate to have been able to find myself with music, with reading, and with writing.

I am content with who I am and with who I will continue to be in the future. I am not made of money, but instead I am made out of creativity and peace. To me, that is more valuable!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – Writing Style

We all have a different writing style; some may want to paint a picture using 20 pages of description before they even get to the dialogue, while others just pour it out from their heart, while leaving the visualization to the reader!  I tend to leave something for the reader to create in their own mind; that is part of reading a great book.

When I read a book, I like to be able to visualize the characters, the environment, and feel with my heart, what they are going through.  I like to have the option to do this, however this is my own opinion.  I tend to create this in my own writing.  I find it also helps to create more interest with my readers.

I put my readers in the driver’s seat 😊❤

What do you like to read?  Do you prefer to contribute your own creativity to a novel with your visualization, or do you prefer to have it all created for you?  I know this is a personal preference, but it is important to honor everyone’s creative styles.  That is what makes us unique!  At the end of the day, we end up balancing each other out with our styles, which makes it even more special.  We are creating options, choices, and inspiration for our readers.

Writing and creativity is a gift to cherish; there is no right or wrong way, there is no “by the book”, but what there is, is called “your way”, and that is important to focus on.  Following your own way of writing, brings the best stories, the best creativity, and the best projects!  Follow your own way!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – Inspiration

Where do you find your inspiration?  I find inspiration in watching the amazing individuals out there continuing to follow their dreams, no matter what is going on out there in the World, they keep plugging away.

We need to remind ourselves that life does not stop, even though we are staying in our homes.  We cannot stop pursuing our dreams, planning for the future, and going after what brings us happiness.

This is a New World we are living in, and we need to adjust our approach, our communication, and our mindset to thrive no matter what is handed to us!  We cannot give up!

I’m making sure I continue writing and working on all my projects!  Every single day!  Yes, some options have been taken from me, but they have been taken “for now”, not forever!  I’m going to make sure some of those options find their way back to me!  It may not be in the traditional way of accomplishing these projects, but I will make sure I rework these projects so they still have an opportunity to grow into the gift they were meant to be.

Please share where you are finding your inspiration; you just never know who you will be helping.  We need to stick together and encourage each other!

Communicate, reach out, and do not give up!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – Time To Make A Movie!

I’ll let you in on a little secret, from November 2019 to March 2020, I was working at bringing the In My Closet book series to the big screen!  I was taking my time, researching, networking with a wonderful film producer/director, and diving into my passion in film production.

Then, the latest in the World happened, so some projects were put on the back burner.  Until recently!!

I decided, when we are dealt a hand we have no control over and with no end date as of yet, there is no reason we cannot take a different approach with our projects, that not only respects the current social distancing, but also respects the need for us to do our part in this fight and “stay home”.   I’ve decided to take a more documentary/interview approach with the characters in my book series.  Creativity at its finest!  This will be an introduction to the characters while leaving you with suspense and excitement to see the actual films.  The build up!

It will take time, but I’m going to make sure this entire approach is a gift to my book series and the future production of this series.  I am checking out different Apps that work with my technology and I’m just going to give it my all!  While still having fun!

This is one of my dreams!  I look at all shows that are continuing from the homes of our most respected celebrities, so why can’t I make a movie with the same concept!  It’s worth a shot!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – In My Bubble Inspiration

“In My Bubble”, now has many meanings!

Here is some “In My Bubble” Inspiration!

First, I have always been somewhat of an introvert, and I quite liked being the silent one in the corner.  I was always personable and I interacted very well with others, on the job, in a group setting, and with family, but I preferred to be in my own space (bubble).  I was the listener, not the chatterbox!  I suppose, this could be looked at, as living in a bubble.

Second, I was raised an only child, but I was also raised growing up with many cousins, who at times, were like having siblings.  I never felt I missed out on the connection brothers and sisters have with each other.  Some automatically refer to only children as living in a bubble, because some only children are found to be on the “shy” side.

Third, I’m a firm believer, due to having an extreme amount of creativity floating around in my mind on a regular basis,  with writing out all those ideas, stories, songs, scripts, and even recipes, allowed me to never feel lonely.  Even though I was by myself in my bubble, it was never boring.

See, there are many ways of living in a bubble!  My Bubble is a very comfortable place!

In my past, some would say, “she lives her life in a bubble!”  I refuse to see anything wrong with that; sometimes, people need a place to escape too which can bring them peace.

The point is, if someone is happy regardless of whether it works for you or not, then just be happy for them.  Whether you enjoy time alone, or you prefer crowds, the bottom line is the importance of what makes someone comfortable.

Now that “we are all” living in a time of seclusion and quarantine, I find more than ever, I’m creating more and more in my bubble.  The creativity has been endless; I can’t type fast enough with all these ideas I have floating around in that colorful bubble of mine.

Regardless, if you like to live in a bubble, or you prefer constant noise around you, as long as you are happy, that is the main thing!  Just as long as you are making the best out of it and finding something good in each day!

I hope you can find your own creative space in your bubble; it can be a very happy place!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – Getting Lost In A Story

Over the past year and a half, I have been writing the third novel, Star of Night, in the “In My Closet” series.  Although, I could have released this novel six months ago, I held on and got lost in the story.

I would be ready to release it, then I would add more and more, and even more.

There are times, when writing, we have an idea of where we would like a novel to end up; Star of Night took on a life of its own.  Out of the three novels in this series, Star of Night pulled me deeper and deeper to the true meaning of writing from your heart.  My heart ached with every word I typed, I cried, I laughed and I even found myself dreaming at night about these characters.

It seems, each novel I write in this series, brings me to a point of reflection in my own life.  This series has made me who I am today; a compassionate woman.

I have allowed myself to get lost in this series, and especially Star of Night, as in doing so, I found an endless amount of growth for myself.

I will be releasing Star of Night towards the end of February 2020, as now when I read this novel (trust me, I’ve read it over and over again) I am content, I am at peace, and I am thrilled with the end result – there will be fourth novel to add to the series.

Jacqueline Burke, Author – An Idea Comes When You Least Expect It

My passion in writing, has been a 30 year journey!  I’ve kept many journals, with ideas, stories, concepts, characters, and simply my own personal thoughts on my day.  I am grateful for writing everything down, as you never know when inspiration will hit you!

For example, last Summer, we were living in our trailer at our campsite; I found myself in a laundry facility doing our weekly loads, when there it was – inspiration!  I’m grateful I had my journal with me!  I know I received quite a few looks from other people, as I was not participating with their conversations.  Instead, I was simply sitting down, in between loads, writing in my journal.  In doing so, I escaped to a place where I could no longer hear the thumping and rattling of the overloaded washing machines, or the humming of the dryers.  The laundry facility did not exist in this time of inspiration.

My ideas come to me, when I least expect it!  I used to feel panic when an idea would hit me, as I was putting pressure on myself to remember every detail until I could get home to write it down.  Hence the reason I now keep my journals with me at all times.

I still love the feeling of pen to paper!

I have boxes and boxes filled with all my ideas and thoughts; some have been turned into lyrics for music,  ideas for novels, and what I refer to as my, “mother-load” box, are my ideas for eventually diving into writing for film/television.  The one thing that I have accomplished, is controlling the panic.  Due to having my journals and writing things down as they come, the information is now safe and locked in!  They are just aging and becoming full bodied while I type them into my laptop.  No more panic!

Grab a journal and a pen, and WRITE!  Write down your thoughts, get it out!  You never know where your inspiration will come from; harness it when it makes its appearance!

Jacqueline Burke, Author – Writing Retreat

I believe it has something to do with living in a community which experiences long Winters, but I detect a Writing Retreat in my future.

For me a writing retreat is a place of solitude, with the option to get pampered 😊

As I pour out my heart into my writing, I feel it is important to rejuvenate during this process.  It not only relaxes my body, but it brings my mind to a place of rest and peace; this allows my creative thoughts to present themselves in calming fashion.

My lists are endless, so when I find myself excited about every creative idea, and I can’t seem to write them out fast enough to share with everyone, then I know it is time to retreat.

Not always do I go away for a retreat; sometimes I turn “me” days into retreats, and find some form of comfort and relaxation during that “me” day.

Busy brain then turns into a nice calming creative space in my mind.

I’m looking forward to my retreat; it is needed 😊💖
